Singapore, February 24th 2012 – Martin Symes, CEO of Wego, the region’s leading travel metasearch site, has stepped down from his role overseeing the day-to-day operations, but will remain actively involved in the Company’s continued growth and success as non-executive Chairman. He will be dividing his time between Asia and Europe.

Symes joined Wego in 2006 from ZUJI, and has led the business through two fund-raising rounds, a merger with Indian travel content and community site HolidayIQ.com and the establishment of subsidiaries in Indonesia and Australia.  He remains a shareholder.

Symes hands over his Wego responsibilities to Ross Veitch, previously Chief Product Officer and who co-founded the business in 2005 following a six year stint as a senior executive of Yahoo! South East Asia.  Co-Founder Craig Hewett remains in his role as Wego Chief Commercial Officer and Hari Nair continues in his role as CEO and Founder of the Indian travel site HolidayIQ.com which merged with Wego in 2010.

Symes commented on the change:

“It has been a pleasure to work with the Wego team, its investors, partners and customers over the last six years, and now is the optimal time for me to move on. This is going to be a terrific year for the business under Ross’s leadership. He is the architect of a world class platform that the team is now scaling across multiple markets.”

Les Wigan, COO of News Digital Media, Wego’s first external investor added:

“We have worked closely with Martin over the last four years and thank him for his contribution.  He has been outstanding in significantly growing the business since we became involved and he leaves Wego in great shape.”

There is no material change in the Company’s strategy which continues to focus on helping travellers to save time, pay less and travel more.
