Indonesians take post-Ramadhan travel to new heights in 2013

Jakarta, August 1, 2013 – Wego, the leading travel metasearch site in the Asia Pacific and Middle East, today revealed record growth in the number of searches for post-Ramadhan (Lebaran) travel by Indonesians.

Lebaran flight searches were up 101 per cent over the same period in 2012, and hotel searches more than twice that at 231 per cent.

“The growth reflects a growing trend of Indonesians to plan their travel online and shows increasing usage of Wego by the Indonesian market,” said Graham Hills, Managing Director of Wego Indonesia.


Bali and Singapore remain the favourites with both destinations recording a 73 and 76 per cent increase respectively over Lebaran travel during in 2012. Yogyakarta has increased in popularity by 251 per cent, ranking third and more people are heading to the capital, with Jakarta up 171 per cent.

Airlines too have displayed some interesting movement among Wego users with Garuda topping out as most popular for international flights during this period, up by 256 per cent. Closely following, Malaysia Airlines’ marketing push appears to have had positive results with an increase in 247 per cent over last year. In 2012, the top spot was held by AirAsia.

While expanding exponentially (805 per cent) in the international market, Tigerair Mandala recaptured local market share with domestic flights up 485 per cent, as Lion Air slipped down 59 per cent.

“Wego users are discovering that they have much more choice, with airline new routes and more accommodation options across the archipelago producing some fantastic deals,” added Hills.
