SINGAPORE, March 4th, 2013 – As Wego continues its global expansion plans in 2013, three of the company’s senior representatives will attend ITB Berlin, one of the most important travel industry trade shows in the world. The European visit coincides with the opening of a new Middle East headquarters in Dubai, and relocation to larger premises in both Bangalore and Singapore.
Leading the team, Dean Wicks, Chief Flights Officer for Wego will meet with the company’s airline partners to help strengthen and expand their business using Wego’s unique travel metasearch technology, while introducing many others who are keen to learn more about how Wego can increase their reach online, beyond their own website.
“I’m thrilled that so many airlines see the value of partnering with Wego and have expressed interest in meeting with us at ITB,”
“With our distinctive local market approach which has been a large part of our localisation strategy, airlines are reaping the benefits in regions that have been in the past, out of their market reach.”
Graham Hills, Managing Director of Wego Indonesia will highlight the incredible progress of the Indonesian travel industry and market in the region.
“Wego Indonesia has grown exponentially since its launch in 2011 and this market has continued to surprise and delight us as they fully embrace a new energy for travel,”
“Inbound we’re witnessing an increasing trend in both domestic and international visitors discovering new destinations in Indonesia, outside of the usual Bali holiday. While Bali continues to be popular I look forward to sharing the progress this country’s travel industry is making in previously undiscovered destinations.”
Joining them will be the newly appointed Vice President of Hotels, Geraldine Lim.
“I’m impressed with the enormous interest in becoming part of Wego’s property inventory which continues to expand at a rapid rate,”
“As we continue to introduce more features to support our accommodation partners I’m certain Wego will possess the most comprehensive hotel and property listings in the world.”
Currently the leading travel metasearch site in the Asia Pacific and Middle East, Wego’s European business continues to grow via twelve customised language sites in the region. Flight searches in the UK grew by 171 per cent this past year, while in Germany this figure jumped 217 per cent. Travel search volumes in Italy and Spain tripled and France has shown an increase of 248 per cent. Portugal showed an impressive six-fold increase in volume.
“We have witnessed enormous growth in trends to book travel online using Wego to plan holiday and business trips in emerging regions such as India, Indonesia and the Middle East and North Africa,”
Wicks said of the growing tendency to book online rather than traditional offline methods.
“Wego first began managing European travel search in 2006 and over the last year we’ve noticed significant increases from the region and a new sophistication of European travellers making the most of the opportunity to save money and time by using a trusted and very capable metasearch site such as Wego.”
