Wego Reveals New Year Travel Insights for Saudi Travelers

Dec 23, 2025

Wego, the number 1 travel app and the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), has unveiled exclusive travel insights for the New Year’s holiday season within Saudi Arabia, helping travelers plan memorable local trips with confidence and convenience.

Alongside this, Wego also shares an Umrah eVisa guide for all travelers. The guide simplifies the application process and offers essential tips for a smooth spiritual journey.

New Year’s Travel Insights for Saudis

Wego’s latest data shows a 14% YoY surge in domestic travel bookings across Saudi Arabia for the New Year, as residents embrace the spirit of celebration in key cities.

Wego experts note that the growth reflects the increasing desire among families and young adventurers to celebrate close to home while enjoying rich, diverse experiences that showcase Saudi Arabia’s expanding entertainment and hospitality scene.

Jeddah with 18.83% increase and Dammam with 56.55% increase stand out as top-most-booked destinations on Wego, drawing travelers with winter events, lively gatherings, and family-friendly outdoor activities.

Riyadh also continues to rank among the top domestic destinations for New Year travel, reflecting its role as a major celebration hub for residents across the Kingdom.

Combining Umrah and Festive Celebrations

Wego data also saw a 35.71% YoY increase in domestic bookings for Makkah trips close to the end of the year, indicating interest in year-end spiritual enrichment.

Wego experts recommend that both local and expat pilgrims time their arrivals in Jeddah or Madinah to seamlessly connect with Riyadh’s vibrant celebrations and nationwide events.

This thoughtful dual itinerary lets pilgrims complete religious duties in Makkah and Madinah, visiting holy sites, performing rituals, and finding reflection, before transitioning to festive highlights like fireworks, concerts, and family gatherings.

Umrah eVisa: Essential Information

Wego highlights the key considerations travelers should keep in mind when planning their Umrah journey:

Visa pathways: Requirements for performing Umrah depend on whether you are a Saudi citizen, an expat living in the Kingdom with an Iqama, or an international visitor.

Saudi citizens only need an Umrah permit via Nusuk, residents usually use their valid iqama or existing Saudi visa plus a Nusuk permit, while international travelers must secure an eligible entry visa (such as Umrah, tourist, or certain visit/stopover visas) online and meet the relevant passport and booking requirements.

Application method: Eligible applicants can complete their eVisa applications online through official Saudi government platforms. A valid passport, a recent photo, and confirmed accommodation booked via Nusuk or authorised agents are generally required.

Validity, stay rules, and permitted activities: Each visa type includes specific conditions regarding duration of stay, entry allowances, and permitted activities. Travelers should review these details carefully before planning their trip.

Permits and services: Pilgrims can access essential Umrah permits and navigation tools through approved digital platforms, supporting smooth entry and movement within Makkah and Madinah.

Arrival and accommodation: Jeddah and Madinah airports remain the most common access points for Umrah. When selecting accommodation, Wego encourages travelers to consider proximity to the Haram, transportation options, mobility needs, and family requirements.

Travel readiness: Keeping digital and physical copies of documents, downloading relevant local apps, and monitoring official updates can help ensure a seamless and organized journey.

Note: Always refer to the latest information on official Saudi government channels before planning or commencing your trip.
