CHENNAI, July 19th, 2012: Asia/Pacific’s leading travel metasearch site today announced the launch of a dedicated Tamil and English website for Tamil Nadu travellers, www.wego.co.in/ta.
The Singapore-based company that has sites operating in 40 countries does not sell flight tickets or hotel rooms like a travel agent; instead it compares all the major online travel agents, airlines and hotel groups to help its users save time and money online. Users choose the products and the suppliers offering the best deals and then click through to book direct. The savings can be very significant.
Since the office launch of wego.co.in earlier this year, Indian travellers have been adopting the localised Wego site in their millions to trim their travel costs, for both domestic and especially international travel where they are searching for cheaper options to counter the devaluation of the Rupee.
The company has also seen a high uptake across Tamil Nadu, particularly around Chennai. Wego users here have checked the site for 38 per cent more flights and 33 per cent more accommodation options between January and May this year, compared to last: their most frequent domestic and international searches reflecting the travel profile of residents:
Top 5 Domestic Searches by Chennai users
- Goa
- Chennai (inbound)
- Ooty
- New Delhi
- Gangtok
Top 5 International Searches by Chennai users
- Singapore
- United Arab Emirates
- Hong Kong
- Indonesia
- Thailand
Singapore is popular across India, but Tamil Nadu residents also travel regularly to the United Arab Emirates. Regionally, wego.co.in is also being used to plan getaways in places like Ooty, the ‘Scotland of the East’ at Shillong and the ‘oasis in the desert’ at Mount Abu.
Inbound volumes are a key measure of the effectiveness of wego.co.in. If significant numbers of residents are using the site to find flights and local accommodation for visitors from outside the region, the content is delivering on expectations. Inbound search volumes for Chennai by Chennai residents are up in the top 5.
Jackson Fernandez, General Manager for Wego India commented:
“We are the first travel metasearch site to launch in multiple regional languages. Our intent has always been to provide our customers with the best travel options in a format that is easily consumable and intuitive. It’s great to see that we are meeting the needs of the people of Tamil Nadu.”
Fernandez is in Chennai signing regional travel partners to add to the major Indian players the company has already integrated into its metasearch sites. The company has several hundred partners globally.
Wego India compares 350,000 accommodation options and over 600 airlines. For more information, click: www.wego.co.in.
