These, and many other places, have been the backdrop for popular films, luring tourists who want to extend their screen experience to a real one. Film-induced tourism is not a new phenomenon in Hollywood. “A great example is New Zealand, which has very successfully leveraged their natural treasures as the backdrop for The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit movies. It goes beyond taking selfies and laying on the same stretch of sand that Leonardo DiCaprio made famous on Phi Phi Island in Thailand,” says Joachim Holte, chief marketing officer of Wego.
